BUP seminar urges stronger global role in Rohingya repatriation
The Department of International Relations at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) hosted a seminar titled "Bangladesh and Myanmar Relations from Global Power Politics: International Responses for Sustainable Peace and Stability" on 10 July 2025, at the university campus.
The seminar brought together diplomats, academics, and students to explore the complex geopolitical landscape of Bangladesh–Myanmar relations, particularly in the context of the ongoing Rohingya crisis. Discussions centred on multilateral diplomatic strategies for securing safe, voluntary repatriation of Rohingyas and upholding peace and stability in the region.
His Excellency Ambassador Christian Lechervy, Special Envoy for Myanmar at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, delivered the keynote address. In his remarks, he highlighted the international community's responsibility in facilitating durable solutions and reaffirmed France's support for a peaceful and rights-based resolution to the crisis.

Lt. General Mohammad Aminul Karim, PhD (Retd.), Distinguished Professor of the Department of International Relations at BUP, and Professor Abul Kalam Azad, PhD, also from the department, served as panel speakers. The session was moderated by Professor Shahab Enam Khan, PhD, who underscored the importance of integrating regional security frameworks with global humanitarian responses.
Participants included senior BUP officials, faculty members, researchers, students, and guests from the diplomatic and development sectors.
The seminar emphasised the importance of sustained international cooperation and policy-level engagement to ensure long-term peace in the region, as well as meaningful support for displaced populations.
