BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stood by the cancer-stricken mother of footballer Ritu Porna Chakma, known as the 'Golden Girl'.

A delegation of 'Amra BNP Paribar' met Ritu Porna Chakma's mother Bhujopati Chakma under the guidance of Tarique Rahman, the main patron of the Amra BNP Paribar this morning (9 July).

A delegation led by party's Senior Joint Secretary General and Chief Adviser of 'Amra BNP Paribar' Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed met with the family of Ritu porna Chakma in the remote hill village of Magachhari in Ghagra Union of Kaukhali Upazila of Rangamati.

Rizvi conveyed a message of sympathy to the concerned family on behalf of Tarique Rahman and handed over medical assistance to Ritu Porna Chakma's mother.

He also expressed his determination to stand by her family.

The delegation of Amra BNP Paribar included its convener Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Chattogram Divisional Assistant Organising Secretary Mir Helal, Ashraf Uddin Bakul, Abul Kashem, the organisation's member secretary Moksedul Momin Mithun, and Jatiya Press Club management committee member Zahidul Islam Roni, among others.

Rangamati District BNP President Dipan Talukder Dipu, General Secretary Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Chittagong South District BNP Convening Committee Senior Member Rajib Jafar Chowdhury, and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Chittagong Metropolitan General Secretary Shariful Islam Tuhin, among others, were present.

Ritu Porna's father, Baraj Banshi Chakma, died of cancer in 2015. Ritu developed into a sportsperson under her father's inspiration. She is also continuing her studies in the philosophy department of Dhaka University.

Recently, Ritu Porna scored two goals against Myanmar in a 2-1 win in the AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. She also scored a brace against Turkmenistan.
