The second round of negotiations between Bangladesh and the United States on the proposed Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff begins today (9 July) in Washington, DC, and will continue until 11 July.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) invited Bangladesh to resume the talks, making it one of the first countries to re-engage in discussions following President Donald Trump's 7 July letter to the leaders of 14 countries affected by the new tariff regime.
Sheikh Bashiruddin, commerce adviser to the Bangladesh government, is leading the country's delegation in person in Washington, according CA Press Wing.
National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman is expected to join the talks virtually from Dhaka. Senior officials, including the Commerce Secretary and an Additional Commerce Secretary, are also present in the US capital to participate in the negotiations.
According to commerce ministry sources, Bangladesh aims to build on the momentum generated during the first round of discussions held on 27 June, which were described as "fruitful" by both sides.
