How much does Bangladesh export to - and import from - the US?

The Trump administration has imposed new tariffs on 14 countries, with others getting a temporary respite until 1 August. Bangladesh is among those hit, now facing a steep 35% tariff to enter the US market, a development that deals a significant blow to the country's garment exports, especially to its single largest export destination.
The question is, why is Trump being so harsh on Bangladesh, a country still on the UN's list of least developed countries (LDCs), with over 85% of its exports dependent on garments?
So, how much does Bangladesh export to — and import from — the United States?
According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), bilateral goods trade between the two countries stood at an estimated $10.6 billion in 2024.
Of that, US exports to Bangladesh amounted to $2.2 billion — a decline of 1.5%, or $34 million, from 2023. In contrast, US imports from Bangladesh totalled $8.4 billion in 2024 — up 1.1%, or $89.3 million, year-on-year.
