Committee formed to overhaul Bangla Academy's operations

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has constituted a 19-member committee tasked with initiating comprehensive reforms to enhance the effectiveness and relevance of the Bangla Academy's activities.

The committee will be chaired by eminent writer, researcher, and translator Faizul Latif Chowdhury. 

Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam has been appointed as member secretary of the committee, according to an official press release said.

This reform committee will examine the existing laws, organizational structure, and operational framework of the Bangla Academy. Based on its findings, it will propose recommendations to align the institution's functions with its broader cultural and intellectual mission.

The committee may co-opt additional members if necessary. The director general of Bangla Academy will provide all kinds of secretarial support to the committee.

The committee has been directed to complete all its activities and submit recommendations within the next three months.

The other members of the committee are: poet, novelist and editor of the Daily Jugantor Abdul Hai Shikdar, researcher and eminent writer Professor Salimullah Khan, Professor Suman Rahman of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Director General of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Faruk Wasif, renowned poet Bratya Raisu, prominent poet and filmmaker Mohammad Romel, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Mahbub Morshed, Executive Director of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Institute Latiful Islam Shibli, Director of Jatiya Grantha Kendro Afsana Begum, writer and intellectual Professor A Al Mamun, eminent poet, novelist, and researcher Sakhawat Tipu, noted writer and intellectual Rifat Hasan, prominent fiction writer and journalist of the Daily Samakal Ehsan Mahmud, noted poet and journalist Kazi Jesin, prominent fiction writer and professor of Independent University Bangladesh Ahmad Mostafa Kamal, renowned writer and translator Javed Hussen and research specialist of PIB Sahul Ahmed Munna.
