Ekushey Book Fair won't take place in December, new dates to be set: Bangla Academy
The previously fixed dates for the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 have been postponed, the Bangla Academy announced today (28 September).
In a press release, the academy said the decision came following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs on 21 September, which stated that the fair should be organised after the upcoming national election.
Based on the opinions of the Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association (Bapus) and other stakeholders, the previously fixed schedule has been suspended, it said.

It added that the new dates for the country's largest annual book fair will be announced later in consultation with publishers and relevant stakeholders.
Earlier on 18 September, Bangla Academy said Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 will be held from 17 December 2025 to 17 January 2026, taking into account the upcoming national elections and the holy month of Ramadan.
The decision was made at a meeting on fixing the fair dates, held at the Shaheed Munir Chowdhury Auditorium of Bangla Academy.
