More than 1.71 million taxpayers have submitted their income tax returns online for the fiscal year 2024–25, marking a significant leap in digital tax services in Bangladesh, according to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
In a press release published today (1 July), the NBR stated that it is committed to delivering all types of income tax services directly to taxpayers' doorsteps.
The automation of the income tax return process has been a groundbreaking step that has generated widespread positive response among taxpayers and encouraged spontaneous return submission, the press release said.
Thanks to ongoing simplification and taxpayer-friendly enhancements based on feedback and demands, a total of 1,712,492 returns have been filed online, while 21,65,321 taxpayers have registered for the e-return system so far this fiscal year, the release added.
The release further stated that to ensure uninterrupted service, the NBR has maintained year-round facilities for online return submission and instant issuance of income tax certificates, which will continue moving forward.
In addition, the NBR said that if taxpayers notice any mistakes in their submitted returns, they can revise them online from the comfort of their homes.
Under Section 180(2) of the Income Tax Act 2023, a revised return can be filed within 180 days of the original return submission, in accordance with Section 180(1), the release said.
The NBR expressed its appreciation to all taxpayers who submitted returns online and encouraged them to continue using the digital services year-round for filing returns and receiving income tax certificates.
