Mahmudur Rahman has been elected chairman of the Dhaka Regional Committee (DRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), with Md Akizur Rahman as secretary.

The election took place at a DRC-ICAB meeting held on 21 June, according to a press release. Their appointments take effect from 24 June.

Mahmudur Rahman is the immediate past secretary of the committee and currently serves as director (Assurance and Advisory) at ACNABIN, Chartered Accountants. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2012, completing his articleship at ACNABIN.

He holds an MBA and BBA in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of Dhaka, and is also a CIMA graduate from the UK. He has participated in various professional training programmes organised by IFRS/IAS and other institutions.

Mahmudur is a current member of several ICAB committees and serves as a resource person at the ICAB Academic Campus, as well as at other professional institutions and universities.

He is also the treasurer of the Accounting Alumni, University of Dhaka, a position he has held since 2014.

Md Akizur Rahman FCA, the newly elected secretary, obtained his master's degree in Accounting from Jagannath University in 2006 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2012 after completing his articleship with SF Ahmed & Co, Chartered Accountants.

He has over 20 years of professional experience with both local and international organisations, including work in overseas environments. He currently serves as a partner at Akther Amir & Co, Chartered Accountants.

Since qualifying, Akizur has actively contributed to ICAB through various steering committees and DRC programmes. He has also served as convener of several flagship ICAB events.
