Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today (25 June) said they will ensure maximum security during the upcoming holy Ashura of the Muslims.

"We will ensure utmost security during the holy Ashura," he said while presiding over a meeting held at the conference room of DMP Headquarters in the capital.

He also said they will make sure the highest security during Ulta Rath Yatra (Reverse Chariot Journey of Hindus).

The commissioner expressed the hope that people of both communities will work together to maintain communal harmony and mutual respect and cooperation for completing these religious festivals smoothly and peacefully.

Addressing the organisers of the Tazia procession, Sazzat said that they have adequate volunteers who will actively work to maintain order in the procession.

The police will be responsible for maintaining overall law and order and controlling traffic management, he said.

A coordination meeting of the DMP was held on security, law and order and traffic management in Dhaka Metropolitan area with the aim of celebrating the upcoming Holy Ashura and Tazia/Mourning Procession programs amidst solemnity and religious manner.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a power point presentation in the coordination meeting.

After that, in an open discussion, the leaders of the Tazia/Mourning Procession Celebration Committee in Dhaka city, representatives of various service organisations, intelligence agencies, and senior officials of DMP ventilated their opinions and suggestions.

Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md Masud Karim, joint police commissioners, deputy police commissioners and officers of various ranks and representatives of various intelligence agencies, Dhaka North and South City Corporations, DPDC, DESCO, Directorate of Health and Fire Service and leaders of the Tazia procession celebration committee were present at  the coordination meeting.
