Bandarban's Devtakum reopens for tourists tomorrow as weather improves

With improving weather conditions and reduced rainfall, tourists will once again be allowed to visit the popular Devtakum tourist spot in Bandarban's Roangchhari upazila starting Thursday (26 June), according to the local administration.

Previously, a one-week travel restriction had been imposed until today (25 June) due to the risk of landslides caused by continuous heavy rain. Authorities had taken the precaution to ensure the safety of tourists in the hilly region.

Speaking to The Business Standard, Roangchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Saiful Islam said, "Rainfall has subsided in recent days, and the weather looks favourable. There are no immediate obstacles to visiting Devtakum from Thursday."

However, he cautioned that since it's still the monsoon season, sudden rainfall in upstream areas could occur. "Everyone must carry life jackets and travel with caution. Guides will be instructed to enforce safety guidelines," he added.

The UNO also noted that if adverse weather returns, the site may be closed again temporarily for safety reasons.

Devtakum, located in Roangchhari upazila, is around 30–35 kilometres from Bandarban town. Tourists typically travel by open-top jeep (locally known as 'chander gari') or CNG-run autorickshaw to reach Kachhopoli, followed by a 40 to 60-minute trek to the destination.
