Dive into the cream and aroma of Gowala

If you were to come back from abroad, what will be the first thing you crave for? For me, it was traditional Bengali desserts like doi, mishti, rashmalai, chomchom etc. Even though you can find anything, anywhere now, it rarely matches the authenticity or taste.

When you have just arrived from abroad and cannot satisfy your cravings for Bengali desserts during the pandemic, "Gowala" can come to the rescue.

Gowala is a "consumer dairytech" company, which takes order online and delivers dairy products at your doorstep. I came across Gowala while I was browsing different food pages and instantly placed an order through their Facebook page. One can also order products from their website, which contain different grocery products besides their dairy items.

There are a number of other online-based sweet shops, but the reason behind choosing Gowala was their attractive package deals. I purchased their Tk1,000 package, which includes 650 gm Mishti Doi Shora, 600 gm Rashmalai, and 250 gm Ghee.

The timing of my purchase was right before Eid, so that I could make good use of the Ghee. I received the product the next day and the delivery was nicely done. I must say, the packaging of Gowala is very impressive.

Now let us start with the taste of the food s. If you are a fan of Mishti Doi, then you must try Gowala's Doi Shora. It has a creamy, pudding-like texture with a deep, rich flavour of dark caramel. The Mishti Doi tastes elegant yet comforting, sweet, but not too sweet. Simply put, Gowala's Doi is another name for perfection. If you want to buy this piece of perfection separately (which I would definitely buy again and again), it will cost only Tk 310.

Next is Rashmalai. Well, Rasmalai is a combination of two words "Ras" meaning juice, and "Malai", meaning cream, but what I love most about this dessert is the spongy, soft, creamy, little sweets which come with it. I am personally satisfied with Gowala's Rashmalai as it was the first rashmalai I found which had more sweets then the malai. Normally, the little sweets swim deep under the malai but in Gowala's Rashmalai, you can definitely find more sweet than usual. Though some may prefer more malai, it was a dream come true for me.

I will not say it is the best rashmalai you will ever taste but it definitely tastes very good. The spongy, creamy soft sweets will melt in your mouth within a second. And the thick and creamy malai will make your consumption experience even better. Gowala's 600gm Rashmalai costs Tk400.

Finally, let's talk about Gowala's Ghee. Though I do not know much about cooking or quality when it comes to ghee, one thing I know is ghee comes with an amazing and tempting aroma. And as soon as you open the jar of Gowala's Ghee, the aroma tickles your tummy with a promise of hot and crispy parathas and halwa made with the ghee. But unfortunately, the tempting aroma of the ghee does not exist much in the finished product, the cooked food. Even after using a lot of ghee, I could not smell the ghee in my halwa, which was a bit disappointing. But apparently it does its work well. The ghee costs Tk 400 for 250gm.

Surprisingly, because of the Eid, I got complimentary Sandesh and it was my second favourite item after the Mishti Doi. Though it was Gurer (jaggery) Sandesh and I do not like jaggery that much, this one completely changed my view. The Sandesh has a creamy texture, rich cream flavour, and is so delicate that it will not even take a second to melt in your mouth. For me, this is an item to reorder. 600 gm Sandesh costs Tk400.

Overall, tasting Gowala's dairy and desserts was a good experience for me. They deliver the quality products at a reasonable price to your home. If you have a Bengali sweet tooth and want to make the best of the stay at home situation, Gowala is an amazing option to try.
