Between Saturday morning and evening, the injured either sought medical help or were admitted for treatment. Some were injured by cattle horns, while others sustained cuts while handling sharp knives or machetes for meat preparation.
The hospital's emergency unit reported that 26 of the injured were admitted due to the severity of their injuries. The remaining patients received first aid and were later discharged.
Abdul Hakim, a resident of Mirabazar area of Sylhet, said, "In the morning, several of us were preparing to sacrifice a cow. While five people were holding the animal, it suddenly jumped. Two people lost their grip on the rope, and the cow's sudden movement caused a sharp machete to slash my hand, leading to heavy bleeding."
Rahim Uddin, from Pathantula, said, "While cutting the meat, my knife slipped and sliced my left leg, causing severe bleeding."
Dr Soumitra Chakraborty, deputy director of Osmani Medical, said, "We always prepare for such emergencies on Eid. Since morning, I have personally supervised the emergency unit. Between morning and evening, 80 patients arrived, of whom 26 were admitted for further care. The others were given initial treatment and sent home."
Chakroborty added, "Most injuries happened accidentally – some from slipping knives and others from the cattle. We have ensured prompt and proper care, including stitching wounds and stopping heavy bleeding. We're optimistic about their recovery."
