‘Friendly relations between Bangladesh and India will be further strengthened’

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das said today that the tested relationship between her country and Bangladesh would be further strengthened in the coming days.

She made the comment during a meeting with Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque at the minister's office in the capital.

She bade farewell to the minister as she has been appointed for a new post in the Ministry of External Affairs, India.

The Indian High Commissioner said, "Some have deliberately run misleading campaigns to destabilise relations between the two countries. But Bangladesh-India relations are not so light. There has been a lot of work between the two countries in the last few years. The enclave problem, the maritime dispute has been resolved. The two countries are working as developing partners."

Liberation War Affairs Minister recalled the support of the government and people of India during the liberation war.

"On the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence, Bangladesh is constructing a memorial to commemorate the contribution of the martyred members of the Indian Allied Forces in the war of independence," the minister told Ganguly.

The Indian High Commissioner lauded the unprecedented development of Bangladesh and the empowerment of women under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

She requested for a Hindi translation of books on the Liberation War. She also said that India is willing to share the joy of the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence in 2021.

The Minister congratulated and wished her on her subsequent appointment as the secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

The minister hoped that the good relations between the two countries would reach a different level during her tenure as secretary of the foreign ministry.
