The 15th meeting of the Bangladesh-China Joint Commission was held yesterday (1 June) in the capital, aiming to elevate bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

Bangladesh delegation was led by Salehuddin Ahmed, finance adviser, while the Chinese delegation was led by Wang Wentao, the country's minister of commerce, reads a press release from the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. Both sides expressed their utmost commitment to elevating the bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation to a new strategic height.

At the meeting, a comprehensive discussion was held on the implementation status regarding the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus during the last high-level visit to China in March 2025.

Both sides also explored how to promote unimpeded trade and achieve balanced development.

Strengthening cooperation on industrial and supply chains, enhancing cooperation on ongoing project management, rationalising terms and conditions of different Chinese assistance, and wider cooperation in various sectors, with a special focus on jute, were also discussed during the meeting.

Both sides emphasised the necessity of fair and balanced trade policies that could benefit both countries in ensuring sustainable development, especially in the current economic turbulence and complexities around the world.

A Memorandum of Understanding on 'Strengthening Economic Cooperation in Industrial and Supply Chains' was signed between Bangladesh and China.

Salehuddin Ahmed Wang Wentao signed the MoU on behalf of the respective governments.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations in the coming days. The two parties agreed that the 16th meeting of the Joint Commission would be held at a mutually convenient time.
