BNP, affiliated wings pay tribute to Ziaur Rahman on 44th death anniversary

Central leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its affiliated organisations paid homage to party founder and former president Ziaur Rahman on his 44th death anniversary at his grave in Dhaka this morning (30 May).
Defying continuous rain, thousands gathered at Ziaur Rahman's mausoleum located at Chandrima Udyan in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area to pay their respect and offer prayers.
The programme began around 10:30am, with senior BNP leaders placing wreaths at the grave.
Present during the tribute were BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Vice Chairman Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, along with leaders and activists from various levels of the party.
After the tribute by the central leaders, leaders of the party's affiliated organisations arrived at the mausoleum one by one to pay their respects to the memory of Ziaur Rahman. The active participation of party members throughout the event was notable.
Earlier at 10am, a procession of professional leaders led by Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, convenor of the Bangladesh United Professionals Council, and Member Secretary Kader Gani Chowdhury reached the mausoleum and laid wreaths.
Among others present at the time were Professor Dr Shamsul Alam Selim, Professor Dr Nurul Islam, cultural figure Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal, Professor Dr Abu Zafar, Professor Dr Anisuzzaman, Engineer Alamgir Hashim Ahmed, agriculturist Dr Shafiqul Islam, and Engineer Mohammad Hanif.
Later, several professional organisations laid wreaths at the mausoleum, including Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB); University Teachers' Association of Bangladesh; White Panel of Dhaka University Teachers; Association of Engineers, Bangladesh; Agriculture Association of Bangladesh; Teachers-Employees Unity Council; Ziaur Rahman Foundation; Zia Parishad; Bangladesh Nationalist Private Bankers and Financial Institutions Employees Association; among others.
