Meril-Prothom Alo Awards 2024: A star-studded celebration of creativity and culture

The prestigious Meril-Prothom Alo Awards 2024 lit up the Bangladesh-China Friendship International Conference Centre on Friday evening, marking one of the most anticipated and celebrated events in the country's entertainment industry.

Now in its 26th edition, the awards ceremony was a vibrant blend of artistic recognition, cultural splendour and celebrity glamour.

Held in honour of the birth centenary of Samson H Chowdhury, founding chairman of Square Group, this year's ceremony carried special significance.

A trusted household name in Bangladesh, Meril has long stood for care and quality. In partnership with the leading national daily Prothom Alo, the brand organises this annual event to honour outstanding talents in film, television, and music who have touched the hearts of audiences with their creative excellence.

In his welcome speech, Malik Mohammad Saeed, CEO of Square Toiletries Ltd, remarked:"The Meril-Prothom Alo Awards is more than just a prize-giving event — it is a heartfelt tribute to our cultural heritage and the artists who enrich it. We are proud to support this celebration of talent and remain committed to nurturing the entertainment landscape in Bangladesh."

Popular performers Afran Nisho and Tasnia Farin hosted the evening with flair. Their dynamic presence kept the audience thoroughly entertained. Shakib Khan was awarded Best Actor, Mehazabien Chowdhury received Best Actress, and Forrukh Ahmed Rehan received Best Emerging Actor.

The most emotional moment of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran actor Abul Hayat. Mr Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Toiletries Ltd, and Mr Anisul Hoque, Associate Editor of Prothom Alo, presented the award on stage.

In addition, Shakib Khan received a Special Recognition Award for his outstanding contribution to Bangladeshi cinema.The awards ceremony also featured captivating cultural performances, adding vibrance and joy to the evening.

Since its inception in 1999, the Meril-Prothom Alo Awards has become the most prestigious celebration in Bangladesh's entertainment industry. This two-decade-long creative partnership between Meril and Prothom Alo continues to set a benchmark for honouring artistic excellence and promoting the nation's cultural journey.
