Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday afternoon arrested the main accused in the rape of a teenage girl in Rangpur from the Hathazari bus stand area of Chattogram.

The arrestee was identified as Md Harun or Rashid, 30, son of Md Abul Hossain of Khamar Nayabari Chowmour village under Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur, according to a press release issued today.

Earlier on May 6, the accused allegedly entered the victim's house in the same area and raped her after finding her alone around 11am.

Following the incident, the victim's father filed a rape case against Harun or Rashid with Pirgachha Police Station.

In a joint operation, a team of RAB-13 from Rangpur and the Crime Prevention Specialized Company of RAB-7 from Chattogram arrested Harun or Rashid from the Hathazari bus stand area around 2:30pm on Sunday.

The arrestee was later handed over to Pirgachha Police Station for further legal action, the release added.
