British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited (BAT Bangladesh) recorded Tk9,597 crore in gross revenue during the first quarter of 2025, despite a sharp decline in cigarette sales.

According to the company's unaudited Q1 financials, gross revenue rose by Tk189.88 crore year-on-year. However, cigarette sales fell by 538 crore sticks between January and March compared to the same period in 2024, dragging down net revenue and profit.

After taxes, the company's net revenue dropped by Tk130 crore to Tk1,865.25 crore. Net profit dipped 23% to Tk318 crore, down from Tk413 crore last year. Earnings per share (EPS) fell accordingly to Tk5.89.

The financials also revealed that BAT Bangladesh paid Tk7,733 crore in supplementary duty and VAT during the quarter, up Tk320 crore from the previous year's Tk7,412.89 crore.

The decline in domestic sales volume weighed heavily on overall performance. BAT sold 1,073.8 crore sticks in the local market, down from 1,612.5 crore in Q1 of 2024 – a 33% drop.

Correspondingly, domestic revenue fell 14% to Tk1,696.75 crore.

Meanwhile, the company's revenue from exports of finished goods and leaf also increased during the period. It earned Tk91.19 crore from finished goods exports, compared to zero in the same period of the previous year. Leaf exports rose by 322% to Tk76.30 crore, up from Tk18.08 crore in the January–March quarter of 2024.

According to its financials, its net asset value per share increased to Tk97.77, while its net operating cash flow per share decreased and stood negative at Tk17.62, which was negative at Tk10.49 in the same time of the previous year.

Regarding decreasing negative cash flow, it said cash flow per share decreased from the same period last year due to lower collection from sales along with excise and tax payments at a higher rate.
