BGMEA inspects private inland container depots in Chattogram
Officials monitored the steps taken by the depots for ensuring a smooth and transparent export process
Private inland container depots (ICDs) are playing a vital role in facilitating export activities of the readymade garment industry in Bangladesh.
Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, a team of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) visited the private ICDs in Chattogram on Wednesday, to monitor the steps taken by the depots for ensuring a smooth and transparent export process.
BGMEA Director (in-charge of Port and Shipping) Anjan Shekhar Das had led the team, read a press release issued on Thursday.

During the inspection, Anjan said, "A lot of export orders were cancelled due to the global Covid-19 crisis, and its impact is visible on our economy. Efforts are on from all quarters, including from the government, to bring back normalcy in the RMG sector.
"Under the current circumstances, it is crucial for private ICDs to take effective measures for ensuring the on-schedule shipment of export goods," he pointed out while exchanging views with officials of the Eshakh Brothers Ltd and Summit Alliance Port Ltd.
Anjan also thanked the private ICDs on behalf of the BGMEA and exporters, for their continued cooperation in shipping the consignments of export goods.
Chattogram Port Authority's Assistant Traffic Manager Mizanur Rahman Khandaker, Customs & Forwarding Agents Association's Assistant Port Affairs Secretary Hasan Murad, Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association's Secretary General Ruhul Amin Sikder, Summit Power Alliance Port Ltd's Director Capt Kamrul Islam Majumder and Eshakh Brothers Ltd's General Manager Fakhrul Akbar were present at the view exchange among others.
