The government will give no concession to those responsible for the attack on National Citizens Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today (5 May).

"No concession will be given to those who try to commit such incidents," the adviser said in response to questions from journalists at the Secretariat after a meeting with his Italian counterpart Mattew Piantedosi.

He also said, "We have already brought 54 people to the book in connection with the attack on Hasnat Abdullah. Those who try to commit such incidents will not be spared."

Yesterday (4 May) evening, Hasnat's vehicle came under attack while returning to Dhaka after attending an event in Tangail. The vehicle was vandalised and Hasnat sustained injuries to his arm during the attack.

According to police, on the way, when his car reached the Gazipur metropolitan intersection area, the car slowed down, probably due to traffic congestion. Then some individuals came on a motorcycle, attacked his car and quickly fled.

"After the incident, Hasnat's vehicle headed towards Dhaka. As it reached the Board Bazar area near the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), students from the university came forward to ensure his safety. Hasnat got out of the car there and spoke with the students. Gazipur Metropolitan Police officials also arrived at the scene shortly after," Gazipur Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Taherul Haque Chauhan told The Business Standard earlier today.

"Our officials spoke to Hasnat at the Board Bazar area. Later, arrangements were made for him to go to Dhaka under police protection," Taherul added.
