Female journo 'forced out' of IAB chief Mufti Faizul's press meet
Other journalists present at the scene protested the matter. However, they failed to convince the organisers to allow her access
A female journalist of a national daily has allegedly been barred from covering a media conference organised by the Islami Andolan Bangladesh in Barishal.
A multimedia reporter at Dainik Jugantor, Monika Chowdhury, was allegedly forced out of the conference attended by IAB's Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim at Barishal Press Club auditorium today (3 May).
Regarding the incident, Monika said while she, along with other journalists, was preparing to cover the event at the press club, several followers of the IAB chief asked her to leave.

"They said female journalists are not allowed here," she added.
Other journalists present at the scene protested the matter. However, they failed to convince the organisers to allow her access.
The incident fuelled a fresh debate amid IAB's demand to abolish the Women's Reform Commission and reserved parliamentary seats for women to protect Islamic values.
Asked about the incident, Mufti Faizul said he was not aware of the incident.
"I am a Muslim and I must be given the freedom to practice my religion. The state will run according to its law. Personally, I am obligated to practice Islam," he mentioned.
The event was organised by the Barishal metropolitan IAB, demanding Mufti Faizul, who lost the 2023 mayoral polls, be declared as the city mayor.
