A group of men, identifying themselves as Jatiotabadi Chatradal members, assaulted actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddique today (29 April) in the capital's Kakrail and then handed him over to police.

Confirming the incident, Ramna Police Station Duty Officer Sub-Inspector Jalal Uddin said some people took Siddique to the station in the afternoon, calling him a fascist.

"He is currently in police custody. It is being verified whether there is any case against him," he said.

Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna Division Masud Alam told TBS there were two cases filed against Siddique with the Gulshan Police Station, where he was transferred later in the evening.

A video of the incident went viral.

Some identified men could be heard identifying themselves as Chatradal members.

Policemen were also seen while the mob was beating up the action.

They tore his shirt, before taking him to the police station.

Police, however, could not say whether any action was taken against the mob.

Earlier in 2023, Siddique had sought nomination from Awami League in the last national election. He collected party nomination forms from Dhaka-17 and Tangail-1 constituencies.
