Nine people, including teenage gang members, have been arrested in a joint operation by the Army and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cumilla. 

During the operation, local and foreign weapons and drugs were seized, said Lieutenant Commander Mahmudul Hasan, the commanding officer of RAB-11 in Cumilla, today (27 April).

The arrested individuals are Md Rubel, 35; Humayun Kabir, 45; Md Akib Hossain, 29; Md Sajjad Hossain, 47; Md Shahadat Hossain, 28; Md Saiful Islam, 19; Md Imran Hossain Ratan, 19, Md. Mojahid, 21, and Md Rafiul Alam Shafi, 20.

All are residents of Cumilla city and South Sadar upazila.

Items seized from the arrested individuals include a 9mm pistol, four rounds of bullets, a revolver, yaba, foreign liquor, and locally-made weapons.

RAB officer Mahmudul Hasan said teen gangs have recently resurfaced in Cumilla city. 

The joint operation by the Army and RAB to counter these teen gangs began last night (26 April) and continued until this morning.

During the operation, Md Rubel, a weapons supplier from South Sadar upazila, was arrested first. Rubel recently gained attention for publicly displaying locally-made firearms in Cumilla city and supplying weapons to various teen gangs.

Three people were arrested in a separate operation in the Race Course Palashi Goli area of Cumilla. 

During this raid, a 9mm pistol, four rounds of bullets, a revolver, and eight rounds of revolver ammunition. 

The other items recovered during this raid were yaba, foreign liquor, gold jewellery, knives, axes, laptops, and cash.

Based on information from those arrested, further operations led to the arrest of four teen gang members. 

Various items, including mobile phones, were also recovered from them. 

Another person named Humayun Kabir (45) was also arrested during the operation. 

Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway at the police station.
