Workers at a Tusuka Group factory in Gazipur's Konabari continued their protests and work stoppage for the second consecutive day today (20 April), demanding a revision of the wage structure, payment of dues, and an end to layoffs, among other demands.

Although the factory authorities issued a notice yesterday agreeing to meet the workers' demands, the workers have announced that they will continue their protests and work stoppage.

According to police and locals, yesterday morning, Tusuka Group workers initially began a work stoppage over their demands but later resumed work. However, from around 2pm, they again stopped working to press for the same demands. At 5pm, after the factory closed for the day, the workers left for home. Later, the factory authorities issued a notice at the factory gate agreeing to the workers' demands.

The workers are demanding 100% implementation of the wage grading system as per BGMEA structure, no deduction of general holidays during Eid vacation, organisation of an annual picnic, an end to favoritism, payment for leave based on joining date, settlement of all dues within this month, and a halt to worker layoffs, among other demands.

Tusuka Group Director Md Tarek Hasan said they have already issued a notice fully accepting the demands raised by the workers yesterday.

"The factory was open today, yet the workers continued their work stoppage and protest. We have not laid off any workers, and everything is being conducted in compliance with labour laws. If any corrections are needed, we have stated in the notice that we are open to discussing and resolving them," he said.

He also claimed that outsiders were instigating the workers. "Today again, workers locked the gates and other areas, preventing us from entering," he added.

Kona Bari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Salauddin Ahmed said workers at the factory are protesting over various demands. Police have been deployed in front of the factory to prevent any untoward incidents.
