JUST teacher suspended over rape allegation

Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) administration has suspended Sujon Chowdhury, an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, following a rape allegation brought against him.
The suspension order, signed by the university's Registrar Engineer Md Ahsan Habib, was issued today (16 April).
"On 15 April 2025, the woman submitted a formal written complaint to the university registrar. Following this, and based on recommendations from the university's departmental academic committee, the administration took action to suspend Dr Sujon Chowdhury," reads the order.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was raped at her own residence by Sujon on 22 October 2024. She later filed a case at the Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on 6 November, 2024.
Registrar Md Ahsan Habib said, "Since the matter is under judicial process, we have decided to temporarily expel Sujon Chowdhury after considering the allegation and academic committee's recommendation."
Sujon Chowdhury, however, has denied the allegation. Speaking to reporters, he said, "That woman is trying to blackmail me for money. The accusations are false."
