Police have begun working to apprehend everyone involved in the attack on artist Manabendra Ghosh's home, said Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki.

In a Facebook post this morning (16 April), Farooki said he had already spoken to Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on the matter, who gave clear instructions to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

"Over the past few days, the ousted Awami League had been inciting online attacks against artist Manabendra Ghosh for what they describe as 'the crime of making an effigy of Hasina'," Farooki wrote.

"Each of them will be brought under the law," he wrote.

Meanwhile, Manabendra claimed to several media that he only made a tiger motif, not an effigy of Sheikh Hasina.

Farooki said the attack came just as Bangladesh concluded an extraordinary celebration of alliance from the hills to the plains.

"Such an attack serves as a reminder that July continues," he added.

"But they don't know that the people of Bangladesh are moving forward carrying July in their hearts. These attackers are insignificant in the face of the unity of Bangladesh's people," wrote the cultural affairs adviser.

Yasmin Khatun, Superintendent of Police of Manikganj, said police forces have already inspected the scene of the attack.

"The investigation is ongoing, and prompt action will be taken if evidence of anyone's involvement is found," she said.

Manowar Hossain Molla, deputy commissioner of Manikganj, said alongside determining the exact cause behind the fire through investigation, the burnt house will be reconstructed through the initiative of the Manikganj District Administration.

Earlier last night (15 April), unknown individuals set fire to the home of artist Manabendra Ghosh in Manikganj's Gorpara Ghosher Bazar area.

He created motifs for this year's Pohela Baishakh celebration procession.

According to media reports, Manabendra was present at his home when the fire was set. One room of his house was burned in the fire.
