Ex-whip Panchanan Biswas sued over graft charges

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Panchanan Biswas, former whip and parliament member from the Khulna-1 constituency, on charges of amassing illegal wealth.
Assistant Director of the ACC's Khulna Integrated District Office Zahid Fazal lodged the case this afternoon.
According to the case, Biswas acquired assets worth approximately Tk1.67 crore that are inconsistent with his known sources of income, officials of the ACC Khulna Office confirmed.
The case alleged that the former lawmaker illegally amassed these assets while serving as both parliament member and a whip of the Jatiya Sangsad.
Md Abdul Wadud, deputy director of the ACC's Khulna office, stated that the case was filed following an inquiry initiated after a complaint was received against the former lawmaker.
The case statement states that Biswas had shown Tk49 lakh in his asset declaration as movable assets and Tk2.5 crore as immovable assets.
But the ACC's investigation found that his known income was Tk3.3 crore and his expenditure was Tk1.4 crore and that has accumulated assets of 1.6 crore inconsistent with his known income.
