Roni Sikder, a constable of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, tragically died in a road accident, just hours before he was to see the birth of his child.

His wife was scheduled for a cesarean section tomorrow.

Roni, 26, was travelling home to Tangail on his motorcycle after taking leave to be present for the birth. The accident occurred at 11:15am today (1 April) on Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Mouchak area of Kaliakoir in Gazipur, police said.

After a battery-run auto-rickshaw struck his motorcycle head-on, he skidded off the road and died instantly from head injury.

Nawzor Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Raish Uddin confirmed the recovery and handover of Roni's body to his family.

He said the auto-rickshaw has been seized, and legal proceedings are underway.

Roni Sikder, son of Jamal Sikder from Tangail Sadar Upazila, served as the personal bodyguard to Assistant Deputy Police Commissioner Deen A Alam.

Deen A Alam expressed deep sorrow, stating that Roni was a dedicated bodyguard who was taking leave to be with his wife for the birth of their child.
