The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) today (26 March) fined seven buses a total of Tk17,000 for charging extra fares from passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr and not having fare charts in Dhaka.

A mobile court, led by BRTA executive magistrate, imposed the fines during a drive at bus terminals in Sayedabad, Gabtoli, Fulbaria, and Mohakhali to prevent public suffering, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges said in a press release.

During the inspection, fare charts were found at all counters in Gabtoli and Mohakhali bus terminals, and no complaints of overcharging were reported. However, at Sayedabad Bus Terminal, Nilachal Paribahan, operating on the Ramgati-Lakshmipur route, was fined Tk3,000 for charging an additional Tk100 per passenger.
