2 Bangladeshis injured in gunshots reportedly fired by Khasias from India

Two Bangladeshi individuals, an uncle and his nephew, have been injured by gunshots allegedly fired by Khasias from the Indian side of the Bichanakandi border in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.

The two people who have been shot are- Iamin Mia, son of Jakir Mia from Kulumchara Par area under Bichanakandi union in Gowainghat upazila and his uncle Akter Hossain.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources, Iamin, Akter and some other sugar smugglers went to Morkitila area inside India, which is 200 metres from the main pillar no-1264 at Bichanakandi BOP area, to bring sugar from there.
"The Bangladeshi smugglers locked into an argument over payment with the local Khasias there. At one point, the Khasias shot multiple rounds of bullets at them, injuring the two," BGB said.
Contacted, Commander of BGB's Sylhet Battalion Lt Col Md Nazmul Haque said, "Two Bangladeshis have been shot on the Indian side of the border. We have heard that they were shot after getting into an argument with the Khasias over payment for the smuggled products."
The BGB commander added that they have sent a message to Border Security Force (BSF) protesting the incident.
