A 24-year-old youth named Rony was stabbed to death in the capital's Mirpur area last night (16 March).

Confirming the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner Maksuder Rahman told The Business Standard that an army and police patrol team arrived at the scene after being informed.

"The dead body remains at the hospital for autopsy," he added.

According to locals, Rony had confronted a gang involved in drug dealing in the Mirpur-1 area about five or six days ago. Following this altercation, the gang members were allegedly looking for an opportunity to attack him.

Around 10:30pm on Sunday, the gang members assaulted Rony in front of the Mirpur Shishu Park area at Mirpur-1, stabbing him multiple times and leaving him severely injured. Locals later found him and rushed him to the hospital.

Aria Afrin, a Mirpur resident, told the media that the incident occurred in front of her home. "My mother also took him to the hospital. However, doctors at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital pronounced him dead at midnight," she said.

Another local, who wished to remain anonymous, accused a gang led by a man named Jibon of carrying out the brutal attack.
