Gazi group lose 6 wickets for 4 runs as Rupganj cruise to victory

Legends of Rupganj cruised to a 10-wicket victory over Gazi Group Cricketers on 4 march at BKSP Ground No. 3, with pacer Shariful Islam's fiery bowling dismantling the opposition.

Gazi Group were skittled out for just 93 runs after a catastrophic start that saw them lose six wickets for only four runs.

Rupganj captain Akbar Ali won the toss and opted to bowl first, and Shariful struck immediately, removing Gazi Group skipper Anamul Haque with the very first ball. Anamul edged an outside-off delivery to wicketkeeper Akbar, leaving the field visibly frustrated. The collapse continued as Salman Hossain Imon fell in a similar manner for 2 runs, and Sadikur Rahman was run out by Soumya Sarkar for 1 run.

Shariful's pace and accuracy were too much for Gazi Group's top order. He bowled Aminul Islam Biplob and Sheikh Parvez Jibon in quick succession, completing his four-wicket haul with a devastating opening spell. Meanwhile, Tanzim Hasan Sakib joined the fray, bowling out Shamsur Rahman Shuvo to leave Gazi Group reeling at 4 for 6.

The lower order provided some resistance, with Tofayel Ahmed (24), Waesi Siddiqui (18), and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain (26) the only batters to reach double figures. Tofayel and Waesi built a 47-run partnership, but Tanvir Islam dismissed both to keep Gazi Group in check. The innings eventually ended at 93 in 38.5 overs, with Saqlain providing a late spark.

Shariful finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 14 in 10 overs, including three maidens. Tanvir Islam also impressed, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs. Tanzim and Saif Hassan chipped in with a wicket each.

In reply, Rupganj openers Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan Tamim made light work of the chase. They combined for an unbeaten 97-run partnership, sealing the win in just 13.5 overs. Saif scored 27 off 38 balls, while Tanzid smashed 65 off 46, ensuring a dominant start to the Dhaka League campaign.

Shoriful was named player of the match for his match-winning spell, continuing his fine form from the BPL and proving his worth after missing out on the Champions Trophy squad.
