44 wild animals rescued from resorts, shop in Gazipur
A special operation conducted by the Forest Department and the Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) rescued 44 illegally held wild animals from resorts and picnic spots in the Pirujali area of Gazipur yesterday (24 February).
These locations had been operating as mini zoos, unlawfully collecting and exhibiting wildlife to attract visitors.
Confirming the rescue, Ashim Mallik, wildlife inspector of the WCCU, told The Business Standard that the raid took place at Aduri Kunjo Picnic Spot and Resort, where officials seized a leopard cat, a monkey, and eight spotted deer that were being kept under an expired licence.

"Additionally, two langurs were rescued from a local vendor, while another shop was found illegally selling 20 parakeets and 12 doves," he added.
The Forest Department pledged to continue strict monitoring and enforcement against illegal wildlife activities.
Authorities stressed that violators of wildlife protection laws will face legal consequences, while awareness campaigns will be strengthened to educate the public on the importance of wildlife conservation.
Officials have urged collective efforts to safeguard these invaluable natural resources.
