Chattogram City Corporation to honour 14 with Ekushey awards, literary prizes

Fourteen distinguished individuals will be honoured by the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) with the Ekushey Memorial Honorary Award and Literary Prize this year for their contributions in various fields. 

Among them, eight will receive the Ekushey Memorial Honorary Award, while six will be honored with the Literary Prize.

CCC's Public Relations Officer Aziz Ahmed confirmed the matter on Monday, stating that the awards will be presented on Wednesday (26 February) at 4pm at the Ekushey Book Fair stage in the Gymnasium Ground near MA Aziz Stadium.

Among the recipients of the Ekushey Memorial Honorary Award, Badiul Alam Chowdhury will be recognised posthumously for his role in the Language Movement. 

Professor Dr Sukomal Barua will be honoured for his contributions to social service and research, while Professor Dr. Imran Bin Yunus will receive the award for excellence in medical science. 

Freedomfighter Shahabuddin Ahmed Chowdhury will be honoured for his role in the Liberation War and Independence Movement, and Lion Kamrun Malek is being awarded for his contributions to social work. 

In the field of music, Nakib Khan will be honoured, while Zahedul Karim Kochi will be recognised for his work in journalism. Tamim Iqbal Khan, a celebrated cricketer, will receive the award for his achievements in sports.

The Literary Prize will be awarded in different categories. Professor Ashhab Uddin will be honoured posthumously for his contribution to fiction, while Professor Dr. Salimullah Khan will be recognised for his work in essays and research. 

Mizanur Rahman Shamim will receive the award for his contributions to children's literature, and Professor Dr. Pranab Kumar Chowdhury will be acknowledged for his work in medical writing for children. 

Jillur Rahman will be honoured for his achievements in poetry, and Farzana Rahman Shimu will be recognized for her work in translation.

The awards ceremony is expected to be a significant event, celebrating contributions in literature, journalism, medicine, social service, and the arts. 

It will highlight the achievements of individuals who have made meaningful contributions to society.
