Couple killed, daughter injured in road accident at Matuail

A couple was killed and their 14-year-old daughter injured after getting hit by a pickup truck in the Matuail area, near Jatrabari, in Dhaka this morning (17 February).
The victims were identified as Abdul Jabbar, 45, and Runa Khan, 38, from Mohammadpur village under Islampur upazila in Jamalpur.
The couple was crossing the road with their daughter near Saddam Market at around 7am when the pickup hit them, Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamaruzzaman Talukder told The Business Standard.

The couple was killed on the spot. Their injured daughter Jui Akhtar was rescued and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Later, she was transferred to another hospital for better treatment.
The pickup's driver managed to flee from the scene right after the accident. Police later impounded the vehicle.
The couple's elder daughter said her parents and sister were on their way to DMCH to visit a relative.
