Culprits have no party: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the ongoing clampdown on irregularities in various sectors will continue.

"No criminal will not be spared. In the end, the culprit must come under law. The miscreants have no party identity," he said.

The minister made the remarks at a briefing after a courtesy call on a delegation, led by Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Ito Naoki, at the minister's office Wednesday morning.

He further said the arrests of Regent Hospital and JKG officials proved that the stance of the government of Sheikh Hasina was against irregularity and corruption.

The minister urged all to avoid gatherings in cattle markets during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha because there was risk of coronavirus infection.

The minister stressed the importance of wearing masks, maintaining social distance and strict adherence to hygiene rules and said momentary neglect or laxity could turn the joy of Eid into sadness.

Thanking the delegation, the minister said Japan is a good friend of Bangladesh and one of the major development partners.

A number of important projects in the country's road transport sector, including metro rail, are being implemented with Japanese funding. A coordination meeting would be held soon to review the progress in the projects, the minister added.

Hayakaya Uho, head of the Bangladesh office of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Takashi Shirai, second secretary of the Japanese embassy in Bangladesh, were present at the meeting.
