Expelled Chattogram City BNP leader Mamun Ali, also known as "King Ali," has filed a case against the police after being released on bail.

Yesterday morning, he submitted the case application with a Chattogram court, alleging police torture, extortion, and looting of goods.

The lawsuit names eight individuals, including the plaintiff of the extortion case against him, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Pahartali police station, and two sub-inspectors. The court of Chattogram's Third Metropolitan Magistrate, Md. Alamgir Hossain, accepted the case and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit an investigation report within 15 days.

The accused include Pahartali Police Station OC Babul Azad, Sub-Inspector (SI) Manik Ghosh, Bandar Police Station SI Md. Asadul Haque, Kishore Majumdar, Saiful Islam (owner of SS Trading in Khatunganj), manager Arif Moinuddin, deputy manager Mohammad Aman, and supervisor Didar Hossain.

The plaintiff's lawyer, Advocate Md. Ashrafur Rahman, told TBS, "The case has been filed on charges of police torture, extortion, and looting of goods, naming the officer-in-charge of Pahartali Police Station, three sub-inspectors, and a total of eight accused. The court has accepted the case application and directed the CID to investigate and submit a report within 15 days."

While OC Babul Azad declined to comment on the case, he stated, "King Ali is an accused in multiple cases. Last year, we caught him red-handed while attempting to seize a business establishment in Pahartali. His lawsuit might be an act of retaliation."

According to the case application, King Ali purchased 20,000 tons of stone worth Tk 5.6 crore from GH Enterprise on October 10 last year and stored it at the depot of King Ali Group on Toll Road, Pahartali. On 17 October, the accused allegedly obstructed the depot's operations. When Ali protested, SI Manik Ghosh asked him to meet the OC, who then demanded Tk1 crore in extortion, amounting to 1% of Ali's total assets, valued at Tk100 crore.

Ali refused and left the police station. Later that night, SI Manik Ghosh allegedly pressured him again to pay the money and drop the name of former Halishahar Police Station OC Pranab Chowdhury from an earlier case. When he refused, Ali was allegedly detained at the police station, beaten, and nearly strangled by three unidentified officers. He lost consciousness due to the torture and was later shown arrested in a separate case.

Additionally, on 24 October, the accused reportedly brought 30 trucks to Ali's depot, assaulted the caretaker, and looted goods worth over Tk5.6 crore, including soil and a weighing scale worth Tk10 lakh. Ali, who spent 49 days in jail, claimed he learned about these events only after securing bail.

Previous arrest and BNP expulsion

King Ali was arrested on 16 October last year on charges of attacking and vandalizing the Mohammadia Trading business in Dakshin Kattali, Pahartali, and demanding extortion. The company's manager, Arif Moinuddin, filed a case against him. That night, police arrested Ali on the spot, stating that he had arrived with about 150 men armed with weapons.

On 19 October, BNP expelled King Ali from the party, citing disciplinary violations. A notice signed by Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Convener Ershad Ullah and Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman confirmed his removal from all party positions.

The case is now under investigation, and the court has ordered CID to submit a  report within 15 days.
