Ctg criminal 'Dhakaiya Akbar' dies after being shot in Patenga

Gangster Ali Akbar, widely known as 'Dhakaiya Akbar', has died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), two days after being critically injured in a gunfight at Patenga sea beach.
According to CMCH police outpost Sub-Inspector Nuru-e-Alam Ashik, Akbar was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following gunshot wounds. Doctors declared him dead around 8am today (25 May).
Akbar, 44, was a resident of the Bayezid Bostami area and the son of Manju Mia. Police sources said he had at least 10 cases filed against him involving murder, illegal arms possession, and extortion.
On Friday night (23 May), around 8:30pm, unidentified assailants opened fire on Akbar and another individual whem they were sitting with friends at the Patenga sea beach. Witnesses reported that a group of 10–12 armed men suddenly approached and began firing indiscriminately at Akbar. He collapsed on the spot, and the attackers fled the scene.
Akbar was rushed to CMCH in critical condition along with the other injured person.
Law enforcement officials stated that Akbar was known to be a rival of another top Chattogram-based gangster, Sajjad Hossain, alias 'Chhoto Sajjad'. Sajjad was arrested earlier this year on 15 March from Bashundhara Shopping Mall in Dhaka and is currently in jail.
Despite Sajjad's imprisonment, his associates remain active. On 29 March, his followers allegedly opened fire on a car carrying another rival gangster Sarwar Hossain in the Bakalia area, killing two people.
Police are currently investigating the motive behind Akbar's killing and the involvement of rival gang factions. Security has been tightened in several parts of the city to prevent further violence.
