Protesters withdraw Jamuna Bridge blockade after Student Movement assures of dissolving Sirajganj committee
Traffic on both ends of the bridge and the highway has come to a complete halt

Protesters have withdrawn their blockade of the west side of Jamuna Bridge after leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement agreed to meet their demand regarding the dissolution of the platform's Sirajganj committee.
They have withdrawn the blockade at around 8:30pm, our correspondent reports from the spot.
Earlier on the day, nearly 200 students gathered at the roundabout on the west side of Jamuna Bridge at around 4pm today (10 February) and started protesting for the second consecutive day.
As a result, traffic on both ends of the bridge and the highway came to a complete halt. The agitated students are chanting slogans, demanding the immediate dissolution of the committee.
On Saturday night (8 February), a statement signed by the Student Movement's Convener Hasnat Abdullah and Member Secretary Arif Sohel was published on the platform's verified Facebook page, approving a 284-member district committee for Sirajganj.

Sajib Sarkar was made the committee's convener, Mehedi Hasan member secretary, Iqbal Hossain Ripon the chief organiser, and TM Mushfiq Saad the spokesperson.
However, the formation of this committee sparked discussions and controversies, which ended up in protests by students of Sirajganj.
Jamuna Bridge West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anarul Islam said, "The students blocked the road yesterday [9 February] as well to press for their demands. Today, they are continuing their protest, causing a complete halt in highway traffic."
"We are trying to convince the protesters to clear the road," he added.
