Everyone should have identity cards to enter the Supreme Court for ensuring overall safety and security of the apex court.

A circular in this regard signed by Muhammad Habibur Rahman, registrar of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, today (8 February) said that all concerned including lawyers, their assistants, justice seekers and officers and employees of the apex court would have to preserve their identity cards.

All concerned have been requested to show their national identity cards, passports or official identity cards to the law enforcing agencies deployed there to ensure safety and security of the Supreme Court, the circular added.

Meanwhile, the security in and around the apex court area has been beefed up today to maintain law and order.

As part of the reinforcement of security, army personnel, members of police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the court premises since this morning.

"We have strengthened security arrangements in the Supreme Court and its surrounding areas," Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin told BSS.

The decision comes after the government launched a nationwide security operation "Operation Devil Hunt" following a violent attack on students and civilians in Gazipur last night.
