A total of 34 leaders and activists of Awami League, its youth wing Jubo League, and its banned student wing Chhatra League have been arrested from various areas of Chattogram in the last 24 hours from yesterday afternoon to this afternoon (5 February).

The Public Relations and Media Wing of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) confirmed the arrests through a press statement issued today. 

The CMP said in the crackdown that started on 1 February, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested a total of 150 members of the organisations in the last five days.

The arrests were made as part of a special operation conducted by CMP to arrest the accused in cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Special Powers Act, including those linked to attacks on student protesters during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

According to the statement, multiple cases have been filed against those arrested, and investigations are ongoing. Law enforcement authorities have indicated that further arrests may follow as part of the ongoing crackdown.

Here are the arrestees as stated in the press statement today:

Kotwali Police Station arrested Bashir Ahmed, 34, Shamsul Alam Bhuiyan Babul, 56, Mizanur Rahman, 53, and Mohammad Ali Akbar, 40. Meanwhile, Chawk Bazar Police Station apprehended Khairul Islam alias Tushar, 24, and Toyon Barua, 22.

Sadarghat Police Station arrested Arif Ahmed, 30, Hasan, 42, and Jahangir Alam, 44, while Pahartali Police Station arrested Md Raju, 30, and Sultan Mahmudul Hasan, 43, joint convener of the 24 No. Rampura Ward Jubo League.

Bandar Police Station arrested Md Arif, 31, the former general secretary of Bandar Thana Chhatra League, along with Rubel. Bayezid Bostami Police Station arrested Selim alias Ramzan Ali, 20, Nizam Uddin Sojib, 22, and Rezaul Karim Tanvir, 25.

Panchlaish Model Police Station arrested Abdul Shukkur, while Karnaphuli Police Station arrested Shahidul Islam, 32, a Jubo League organizer from Shikalbaha Union. Akbar Shah Police Station arrested Iqbal Ahmed Alvi, 21.

EPZ Police Station apprehended Saiful Islam, 25, and Monsur Alam, 35, while Bakalia Police Station arrested Taimur Shah, 40, Hashem, 31, and Akbar Hossain, 30, Anisul Islam alias Soumik, 31, former joint convener of Patiya Thana Chhatra League, along with Arif Hossain, 24, Shahidul Islam Shawon, 24, Tuhin Murad, 32, and Mahim, 19.

Chandgaon Police Station arrested Didar, 39, and Imran Hossain, 32, while Patenga Model Police Station arrested Omar Faruq, 32, an active worker of the 41 No. Ward Awami League.

Khulshi Police arrested Javed Afsar Chowdhury, 47, and Abdur Rahim.

CMP officials stated that further legal action will be taken against the detainees, and law enforcement will continue its efforts to ensure public safety.
