An 11-year-old girl reportedly went missing from the capital's Mohammadpur area, near Krishi Market, yesterday (2 February).

Hours later her photo and news of her going missing flooded social media.

Speaking to The Business Standard, her father Md Razib said his daughter, Arabi Islam Suba, had arrived in Dhaka a few months back.

A Grade VI student in Barishal, she came to Dhaka as her mother is currently undergoing cancer treatment, he said.

She was living in her aunt's house in Mohammadpur.

According to her father, yesterday she went out with her cousin, of a similar age.

When they were crossing a road near Krishi Market, just in front of Prince Bazar, Suba's cousin managed to get across, but the 11-year-old could not.

When her cousin looked back, he could not find her anymore.

"We have spoken to the nearest police station. They came with us to the spot and have collected CCTV camera footage of the incident," said Razib, who works in a Dhaka-Barishal launch.

She was last seen wearing a pink t-shirt and black pants.

Speaking to The Business Standard, Officer In-charge of Mohammadpur Thana, Iftekhar Hasan, said, "The family came to us yesterday and let us know about the matter verbally. We sent a sub inspector to the spot. Now, we are collecting CCTV footage."

He also said there was some confusion about which area the matter fell under.
