70kg brass bell stolen from Mohammadpur church recovered beside garbage bin
The unidentified thief or thieves took the bell from an open area on the second floor sometime after 12:03am yesterday (1 October).
A 70kg brass bell stolen from a church in Mohammadpur was recovered beside a garbage bin on Zakir Hossain Road at around 2:50am today (2 October).
Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Halim confirmed the matter.
According to police, the theft took place at St Paul School and Church, located at House 92 in front of the Wasa building on Asad Avenue.
The unidentified thief or thieves took the bell from an open area on the second floor sometime after 12:03am yesterday (1 October).
Police inspected the scene after receiving information about the theft at around 4:35am yesterday and launched an operation to recover the bell and identify those involved.
Police said the church's CCTV recording had been switched off from 12:03am yesterday, before the theft occurred. The reason for the interruption is being investigated.
The bell was later recovered intact and has been kept in police custody.
Investigators are analysing CCTV footage from nearby establishments and collecting information to identify and arrest those involved.
No arrests have been reported in connection with the theft so far.
