Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested 25 leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League and Jubo League in a special operation conducted from Friday night to Sunday morning in different parts of the port city.

In separate press releases, CMP informed that they were arrested on various charges, including cases related to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Anti-Terrorism Act.

On the first day of the operation, 15 were arrested from the areas of nine police stations in the city. The arrested were Md Shamsuddin, 39, Md Sahed, 26, Md Mahbub Alam, 52, Akbar Hossain, 23, Md Ramzan 19, Md Zahidul Islam Sakib, 22, Hriday Hasan, 19, Md Abbas Uddin, 30, Md Zakir Hossain, 25, Talha Jubair, 24, Mehedi Hasan Tushar, 26, Karnaphuli upazila Jubo League General Secretary Alamgir Badsha, 42, Md Monir, 37, Md Mamun, 35, Md Imran Hossain, 40.

On the second day of the operation, 10 people were arrested from the Sadarghat police station area.

The arrested were Sabir Hossain, 23, Mohammad Sajid Irfan, 20, Kamrul Islam Wasim, 19, Sajjad Hossain Maruf, 20, Abu Bakker Siddique, 23, Mohammad Shahid Sabir, 22, Tanmoy Das, 23, Niloy Shil, 23, Kaushik Dhar, 22, and Soleman Ahmed, 25. 

The arrested are allegedly involved in extremist activities under the leadership of Sabir Hossain.

CMP has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order in Chattogram and taking strict action against individuals involved in criminal and extremist activities.
