‘Regent, JKG scams gave Bangladesh a bad name’

Issuing fake Covid-19 certificates, Regent Hospital and JKG Health Care damaged the country's image.

Speakers said this at a human chain programme organised by Safe Food and Consumer Rights Movement, Bangladesh on Monday in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

They demanded exemplary punishment of the fraudsters. The speakers also called for retesting the victims' samples and giving them compensation.

Secretary General of Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party (Revolutionary Workers' Party of Bangladesh) Saiful Haque said the people of Bangladesh have right to know who protected Shahed and Sabrina.

"They were desperate to earn money. It did not matter to them who suffered."

Calling for the immediate arrest and punishment of the scammers, Saiful said, "Their activities hurt Bangladesh's image in the world and it will ultimately affect our migrant workers."

Safe Food and Consumer Rights Movement Chief Executive Kamruzzaman Bablu presided over the programme while its organisation secretary Asaduzzaman Azam moderated it.

National Awami Party Secretary General Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan; Safe Food and Consumer Rights Movement Vice-President Md Shahidul Islam, Treasurer Noman Mosharef, Programme Co-coordinator Md Samsul Arefin, Publicity Secretary Mahmudur Rahman Khan Bappi, Office Secretary Abdul Aziz, Social Welfare Secretary Imam Hasan and others were also present at the programme.
