Ex-OC who fled from Uttara East police custody likely in India: DMP chief
He was arrested on 8 January in connection with a murder case and escaped on 9 January from Uttara East Police Station
Shah Alam, former officer-in-charge (OC) who escaped from the custody of Uttara East Police Station, might have fled to India, suspects Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjad Ali.
"Police did not release the former OC. They could have let him go when he was in Kushtia if they intended to. He escaped due to negligence, and two officers responsible for that have been dismissed," said the commissioner at a meeting with the newly elected executive committee of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) today (21 December).
"He was not placed in custody but kept in the OC's room due to officers' leniency. A sub-inspector responsible for monitoring him might have acted carelessly, enabling the escape," he added.

Police suspect that Shah Alam, who was transferred to Kushtia after the mass uprising, fled to a neighbouring country after escaping police custody from Dhaka.
He was arrested on 8 January in connection with a murder case and escaped on 9 January from Uttara East Police Station.
Efforts to apprehend him are ongoing, with assistance from all law enforcement units, including the army and RAB.
