Lt Tanzim murder: Police submit charge sheet against 18
Police today (19 January) submitted a charge sheet against 18 people in army officer Lieutenant Md Tanzim Sarwar Nirjan murder case to the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court of Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar.
Investigating Officer Inspector (Investigation) Arup Kumar Chowdhury of the Chakaria Police Station completed the investigation within four months of the murder.
Police Inspector (Court Inspector) Md Anwarul Islam said that they found evidence against 18 people during the investigation. Among the 18, 12 have already been arrested, while six remain fugitives. Arrest warrants and orders for asset seizure have been issued against the six fugitives.

He said that two separate cases were filed with the police station — one under the charges of murder and another under the Arms Act. The charge sheet was submitted against 18 people in both cases.
First in one case, Senior Warrant Officer Md Abdullah Al Harunur Rashid of the Bangladesh Army filed a complaint naming 17 people, accusing them for robbery and murdering the army officer. In another case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Alamgir filed with the same police station under the Arms Act against the same people.
Although the initial cases named 17 people in connection with the murder, six of them were excluded from the charge sheet due to lack of evidence.
Later, through investigation, seven new names were added. As a result, 18 people were charged in the two separate cases.
On 24 September 2023, Lieutenant Md Tanzim Sarwar Nirjan was killed in a joint force operation during a robbery at the residence of fish trader Rezaul Karim in Purba Maizpara, Dulahazara union of Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar. The robbers stabbed Lieutenant Tanzim to death. The joint forces arrested three robbers from the spot and seized a locally made firearm and six bullets.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Lieutenant Tanzim was from Tangail district. He was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) in 2022 through the 82nd Long Course at the Bangladesh Military Academy.
