Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today (18 January) warned that the government would take strict measures to prevent hill and hillock cutting across the country.

"Anyone involved in such activities will face stern action," she said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at the Circuit House in Chattogram.

Officials from the Forest Department, BFRI, BFIDC, and Water Development Board were present.
Rizwana asked the concerned authorities to develop an action plan to curb brick kilns, noise pollution, and ban use of polythene shopping bags. Effective measures in this regard must be taken within next month, she said.
Emphasizing the need for coordination among government agencies she said active participation of local communities should be ensured to protect environment and natural resources.
She stressed on action against deforestation, sustainable water management and effective steps to address climate change challenges.
The meeting discussed the ongoing activities and future plans of various departments to protect Chattogram's environment and biodiversity.
Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Nazmul Ahsan, Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Director General of the Water Development Board A.K.M. Tahmidul Islam and senior officials from the Department of Forests, Department of Environment, BFRI, BFIDC, and Water Development Board were present.
