Coast Guard seizes 2,000 kg of jatka in meghna river
Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted a special operation in the Charbhairavi area of Chandpur, near the Meghna River on January 17, 2025. The operation, led by the Dhaka Zone under BCG Station Chandpur and BCG Outpost Haemchar, was initiated based on secret intelligence reports.
During the operation, a wooden trawler was intercepted and searched, resulting in the discovery and seizure of 2,000 kg of jatka (juvenile hilsa fish). Nine individuals aboard the trawler were detained.
Following the successful operation, the seized jatka was distributed among local madrassas, orphanages, and impoverished families, in the presence of the Senior Fisheries Officer of Haemchar. The seized trawler was handed over to the Senior Fisheries Officer, while the detained individuals were transferred to the Haemchar Police Station for further legal action.
