Govt renames 13 universities, removes Sheikh family honorifics

The institutions include Sheikh Hasina University in Netrakona, now renamed Netrakona University

The interim government has renamed 13 universities in the country that were previously named after Sheikh family members, announced Asif Mahmud, sport and youth adviser to the interim government, through a post on his verified Facebook account today (16 January).

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul also announced it on his verified Facebook account.   

Sheikh Hasina University in Netrakona has been renamed Netrakona University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Kishoreganj is now Kishoreganj University and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Naogaon has been renamed Naogaon University.

Mujibnagar University in Meherpur has been renamed Meherpur University, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University in Gazipur is now Gazipur Agricultural University. 

The name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Shariatpur Agricultural University has been shortened to Shariatpur Agricultural University.  

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University has been renamed Bangladesh Digital University. Bongomata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University in Jamalpur is now Jamalpur Science and Technology University.  

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Pirojpur has been renamed Pirojpur Science and Technology University while Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Narayanganj is now Narayanganj Science and Technology University.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Gopalganj has been renamed to Gopalganj Science and Technology University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University in Chattogram is now Maritime University Bangladesh, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University has been renamed to Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh.
